After a hard-fought contest, the Roughriders fell in four sets to the Broncos and moved to 1-3 overall on the young season.

After an even start to set one, NMMI pulled ahead 20-14 and eventually took a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 victory to start things off.

In set two, the Roughriders found their stride and started to dominate at the net, blocking almost any NMMI shot that came their way. Leading 12-9, sophomore outside hitter Kate Allan blocked an NMMI attack into the visitors side of the floor, forcing the Broncos to take a timeout.

Two plays later, freshman outside hitter Abby Whatton tallied a kill on a ball with the perfect amount of soft touch to take a 15-9 lead. After a small NMMI run, freshman right hitter Allison Birtcil got in on the block party to give YC a 16-13 lead.

The YC play of the night came with the Roughriders leading 17-13. NMMI sent an attack to the YC side of the court that was dug out by sophomore libero Naomi Glasker then barely touched over to the other side by Whatton. After the flashy play and another YC dig, Birtcil finished the play off with a big kill to balloon the advantage to 18-13 in favor of the Roughriders.

With a big lead, Birtcil tallied another ferocious kill later in the set and freshman middle blocker Ella Simon also tallied a flashy block as the Roughriders went on to win the set 25-18.

Despite the continuation of the great blocking from YC, NMMI cruised to a 25-15 victory in set three. In set four, the Broncos narrowly led the Roughriders 19-18, before pulling away for a 25-21 victory that also gave them the match victory.
