Sophomore forward Emma Alvarez of the Yavapai College women’s soccer team has earned ACCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors the conference office announced earlier this week.
For Alvarez, it’s the fourth time she has earned ACCAC Player of the Week honors, after earning the distinction three times during her freshman season in 2021, while she becomes the first Roughrider to earn the honor during the 2022-23 athletic year.
Alvarez brings home ACCAC Player of the Week honors after playing a part in all four of YC’s goals scored last week, scoring two of them and assisting on the other two for a total of six points on the week.
Last Thursday (September 1) against the Matadors of Arizona Western, Alvarez netted the lone Roughrider goal in the match. Two days later on Saturday (September 3), Alvarez assisted on YC’s first goal of the game, scored the second goal of the game and assisted on the third goal of the game for a four-point game against the Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale.
On the young season, Alvarez leads YC in goals (four) and assists (two) for a total of 10 points.
Alvarez and the rest of the Roughriders are back in action on Saturday (September 10) in Douglas, Arizona, where they will take on the Cochise College Apaches at 6 p.m. in their first conference game of the season.
