Five minutes into the contest, sophomore midfielder Andrew Del Giudice gave YC a quick 1-0 lead after splitting the defense and beating the keeper to his right. Sophomore forward Iann Topete collected the assist on the play.

Ten minutes later, sophomore forward Mael Lopes found the back of the net after using his speed to get behind the defense and beat the Coyote keeper. Sophomore midfielder Charlie Nunez took home the assist on the play after sending a nice pass to the foot of Lopes.

Up 2-0 and with about 10 minutes left in the first half, YC scored a pair of goals within a minute and a half of each other.

On the first goal, sophomore midfielder Michal Mojzis lobbed a ball in front of the net, sophomore defender Alejandro Cardona touched it out of the air and Topete finished off the play by corralling Cardona’s pass, spinning and driving the ball into the back of the net.

Shortly after Topete’s score, Topete and Mojzis gained possession of the ball on a rush and this time, Topete fed the ball to Mojzis who was able to beat the keeper for his first score of the season.

After taking a 4-0 lead into halftime, the Roughriders came out of the break and continued their scoring onslaught.

Five minutes into the second half, Del Giudice capitalized on some sloppy defense from Chandler-Gilbert and stole the ball from the keeper and deposited it into the Coyote net for his second score of the day and a 5-0 lead.

Five minutes after Del Giudice’s second goal, sophomore forward Joey Vega used his speed to push the ball past the defense and into the corner. He then crossed the ball in front of the net and over to Topete who touched it past the keeper for his second goal of the day and a 6-0 lead.

Freshman defender Logan Phipps finished off the scoring for the day with 10 minutes left in the game when he deposited a free kick just outside the box into the back of the net, beating the Coyote keeper on his short side. It was also Phipps’ first goal of the season.

With two assists and two goals on the day, Topete finished the game with six points and now leads the Roughriders in goals with four.

Sophomore goalkeeper Liam Morris took home the win and shutout in net.
