YC E-Sports Is Ready To Excel Now

While preparing for the fall E-Sports season, YC Hearthstone competitor Champion Reifenkugel has been quickly climbing the national ranks in the online card game.

Within the last week, Reifenkugel earned a spot at No. 25, however, the Phoenix native recently ascended all the way to the No. 15 spot in the country.

“The biggest ways I have found to improve in Hearthstone, or games in general, are 1: Keep your mental,” said Reifenkugel. “Tilt is the number one way to drop ranks fast, especially in a card game where you are subject to variance and occasional very bad luck. Stay calm and carry on. 2: Sleep. It is not worth it to stay up till 3 a.m. to push a rank. 3: Eat before you play and stay hydrated. 4: Stay in shape!”

About Hearthstone

Hearthstone is a free-to-play online digital collectible card game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is a turn-based card game between two opponents, using constructed decks of 30-40 cards along with a selected hero with a unique power. Players use their limited mana crystals to play abilities or summon minions to attack the opponent, with the goal of destroying the opponent’s hero.

“At YC, we support our students and athletes in a manner that encourages a healthy progression inside the classroom and outside the classroom,” said E-Sports Coach Kevin Lewis. “With Champion, supporting him is easy due to his dedication, communication habits, honesty, responsiveness and capability as a Hearthstone player. Our goal each semester is to improve and set him up for success in his future endeavors. At this rate, it looks like he will have a bright future that people should keep an eye on.”

Starting in October, Champion will be participating in Hearthstone matches every Wednesday for the NJCAA fall E-Sports season.

Fans will be able to watch Champion compete in Hearthstone on YC E-Sports’ twitch channel. In addition, fans can keep up with the latest YC E-Sports news and updates on GoRoughriders.com or the YC E-Sports twitter: @yavapai_esports.
