The Games

Baseball begins on Tuesday at noon at Roughrider Park where Yavapai will play the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters in its first doubleheader of the week. After a few off days, the No. 6-ranked Central Arizona College Vaqueros visit Prescott on Saturday for a doubleheader that starts at noon in what will be the regular-season finale for YC.

All four games will have live stats and live streaming available on GoRoughriders.com/Live

The Gila Monsters

Eastern Arizona comes into its matchup with YC at 22-28 overall and 11-23 in the conference. Last time out, the Gila Monsters split with Central Arizona. The Roughriders and Gila Monsters previously matched up on March 1 in Thatcher, Arizona, where the teams split with EAC taking game one 5-4 and YC taking game two 3-2.

The Vaqueros

Central Arizona comes into its matchup with YC ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA, 43-10 overall and 27-9 in the ACCAC. Before heading to Prescott on Saturday, Central will visit GateWay on Tuesday for a single night game.

The Roughriders fell 7-5 to the Vaqueros on February 5 at the 2022 Zinger Bat Invitational, before splitting their matchup in Casa Grande on March 5 in which YC took game one 4-3 and Central took game two 15-5.

The Roughriders

After sweeping No. 13-ranked Arizona Western and splitting with South Mountain last week, Yavapai comes into its week of baseball with a 34-15-1 overall record and 22-12 conference record. The Roughriders currently hold the fourth-place spot in the ACCAC standings with a two-game lead over Pima while also owning the tiebreaker with the Aztecs by virtue of winning the season series.

With four games left on the regular-season schedule for the Roughriders, two wins in any capacity this week will clinch a spot in the NJCAA Region 1 Playoffs which starts on May 5.

Players To Watch

Yavapai’s 2-3-4 hitters: sophomore utility man JT Taylor, redshirt-sophomore outfielder Sean Rimmer and freshman utility man Ben Zeigler all own batting averages above .385 and have proven to be a force this season. Look for the trio to drive the offense to a playoff spot this week.

One Last Thing

With five homers last week, Rimmer owns 18 longballs this season with the next-closest in the conference at 12.
