Baseball Heads To Glendale, Hosts GateWay This Week

The Yavapai College baseball team is set for a pair of doubleheaders this week as it travels to Glendale on Tuesday and hosts GateWay on Saturday.

The Games
Baseball gets underway at noon on Tuesday in Glendale, Arizona, where the Roughriders will play the Glendale Community College Gauchos with game one’s first pitch scheduled for noon. After a few off days, the Roughriders host the GateWay Community College Geckos on Saturday at Roughrider Park with first pitch for game one scheduled for noon.

Live stats for both games will be available on while Saturday’s home games will also have live streaming. 

The Gauchos
Glendale comes into its doubleheader with YC with an overall record of 19-17-1 and conference record of 9-11. The Roughriders and Gauchos opened their seasons with a four-game series back in January with Yavapai winning three of the games in addition to the teams tying once. 

The Geckos
GateWay comes into its matchup with the Roughriders with a 13-22 overall record and 8-12 record within the conference. Before heading to Prescott on Saturday, the Geckos will play South Mountain on the road on Tuesday and at home on Wednesday. 

The Roughriders
Despite splits with Paradise Valley and Mesa in their latest action, the Roughriders recent ten-game win streak has helped propel them to a 22-11-1 overall record and 12-8 conference record.

On the mound, Nick WoodcockNate WardTyler DavisEthan Bell and Barrett Skaugrud all own ERAs under 4.00 while Ward, Davis, Bell and Skaugrud all own 15-or-more strikeouts. 

Player To Watch
Sophomore righty Nate Ward has earned a victory in each of his last three starts and also defeated the Gauchos to open the season for the Roughriders back on January 28. 

One Last Thing
Home cookin’: after their doubleheader with Glendale, the Roughriders play 14 of their final 18 regular-season games at Roughrider Park where they have an 11-1 record.
