Before its home finale on Saturday against Phoenix, the Yavapai College women’s soccer team travels to Glendale on Tuesday as it nears the end of the regular season.
The Roughriders’ first matchup of the week takes place on Tuesday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Glendale, Arizona, where they will take on the Glendale Community College Gauchos. After a few off days, the Roughriders return home to Ken Lindley Field where they will take on the No. 2-ranked Phoenix College Bears on Saturday, October 15, in YC’s home finale. That match is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
Saturday’s match will be streamed on GoRoughriders.com/Live. If Tuesday’s match is streamed, the link will be there as well.
Glendale comes into its matchup with YC at 0-10 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
Ranked No. 2 in NJCAA DII, Phoenix comes into its matchup with YC at 10-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Its losses have come to Arizona Western (2-1) and Cochise (4-2). Before heading to Prescott on Saturday, the Bears will host Scottsdale on Tuesday.
YC comes into its week of soccer at 7-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Last week, the Roughriders had their six-game win streak snapped by a 2-1 home loss vs. No. 15 Arizona Western and 4-0 road loss vs. No. 3 Pima. In the conference, Yavapai and Phoenix are currently tied for third.
Player To Watch
Freshman midfielder Angelina De Leon scored YC’s lone goal last week, an absolute missile from long range. It was the second time this season that De Leon has netted a score from far outside the goal box.
One Last Thing
Last year’s meeting with the Gauchos was canceled, making Tuesday’s matchup between the teams the first in program history for YC women’s soccer.
