On Friday night, AWC swept the Roughriders before another scheduled matchup on Saturday afternoon in which AWC prevailed in four sets. The pair of losses pushes YC’s overall record to 4-11 and conference record to 2-5.

After getting swept on Friday and going down 2-0 in sets on Saturday afternoon, the Roughriders showed tremendous fight and had the Matadors on the ropes in sets three and four on Saturday.

After narrowly losing the second set of the day, YC carried momentum into set number three and after a laser ace from freshman libero Kaylee Torres and a couple of kills, the Roughriders led 9-4, forcing AWC to take a timeout.

After the timeout, things didn’t get any easier for the Matadors as the Roughriders started to dominate at the front of the net while freshman outside hitter Abby Whatton became unstoppable on the attack.

After a timeout, Whatton tallied a big kill to go up 16-7, propelling the Roughriders to a 25-20 victory while forcing a fourth set.

In the fourth set, the incredible blocking by the Roughriders continued to give them a narrow 15-14 lead. Unfortunately for YC, the Matadors were able to find their footing and went on a run to take the set by a score of 25-19 and win the match in four sets.
