Volleyball Begins Conference Play With South Mountain

The Cougars

South Mountain comes into its matchup with Yavapai with a 3-7 overall record and 1-1 conference record. Its wins have come over Park, Williston State and Phoenix while its losses have come to Amarillo, Tyler, Odessa, NMMI, Pima, Eastern Arizona and Scottsdale. 

The Roughriders

After opening the season with a loss to Ottawa (JV), Yavapai went 1-1 in the Arizona Western Tournament with a victory over CSN and loss to Garden City. Last weekend, the Roughriders hosted the Dalton Overstreet Invitational and fell to No. 2 NMMI, No. 3 Snow and Lee. 

Players To Watch

Freshman outside hitter Abby Whatton leads the squad in kills with 48, freshman setter Anna Bolich leads in assists with 105, sophomore libero Naomi Glasker leads in digs with 102 and sophomore middle blocker Keyaira Gravitt leads in total blocks with 20. 

One Last Thing

Head Coach Chelsey Lucas earned her first win as a Roughrider on August 27 against CSN. A win on Wednesday night would be her first conference victory at Yavapai.
