Two Patients Flown to Phoenix after Serious Injury Collision

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at approximately 4:17 P.M. the Prescott Police Department Traffic Safety Section responded to the intersection of Montezuma Street and Merritt Street upon the report of a three-vehicle injury collision. Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that a 1998 Dodge truck, driven by a 27-year-old man from Pine, AZ. was travelling northbound on Montezuma Street when he failed to slow for traffic stopped for the red light at the intersection of Merritt Street. As a result, the Dodge truck rear-ended a 2006 Toyota Solaris, which was occupied by a 63-year-old Prescott woman. The force of the collision pushed the Toyota forward and into the rear of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler being operated by a 59-year-old Prescott man.The force of the collision was significant.

The driver of the Dodge truck as well as the driver of the Toyota Solaris were transported from the scene to Yavapai Regional Medical Center prior to being air evacuated to a Phoenix area hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was treated on scene for injuries sustained in the collision. Traffic in the area was slowed and restricted for about an hour and a half as officers investigated this incident and crews cleared the roadway.

Currently, this incident is still under investigation. Officers did observe possible indicators of impairment from the driver of the Dodge truck. A search warrant was executed on the driver of the Dodge truck and charges are pending toxicology results.
