Thinning Operations Partially Completed in the Camp Wood Area on the Chino Valley Ranger District

For the last 6 weeks a contractor has been using heavy equipment to thin trees on 366 acres of Prescott National Forest land in the Camp Wood area on the Chino Valley Ranger District. The Connell and Stinson Stewardship Projects are located along Camp Wood Road (County Road 68) in the vicinity of Yolo Ranch, Forest Service Road 9 and the Rock House Spring.

The contractor has completed all thinning operations and closeout work in current units  of the two projects. The contractor is expected to return to the area later this year or early next winter to complete the remaining 739 acres in the Connell and Stinson

Stewardship project areas. The intent of the project is to improve the health and resiliency of fire-adapted ecosystems while reducing the risk of bark beetle outbreaks which are heavily impacting the Prescott National Forest. With the completion of operations, all roads, trails, and dispersed camping sites in the project area are now open to the public. Members of the public are reminded that the Prescott National Forest is entering into Stage 1 Fire Restriction on May 5, 2022.
