Ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA and rockin’ and rollin’, the Yavapai College softball team continues its impressive season with four ACCAC contests this week: a doubleheader on the road on Tuesday and a doubleheader at home on Saturday.
Softball gets underway on Tuesday at noon in Chandler, Arizona, where the Roughriders will face the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes twice. After a few off days, Yavapai will host the South Mountain Community College Cougars on Saturday at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott, Arizona, in a doubleheader that starts at noon.
Live stats for both games and live streaming for Saturday’s games will be available on GoRoughriders.com/Live.
Chandler-Gilbert comes into its doubleheader with the Roughriders with an overall record of 9-1 and conference record of 8-0. The Coyotes are also tied with Yavapai atop the ACCAC standings.
South Mountain is off to a 10-6 overall start this season with an ACCAC mark of 3-3. Before the Cougars head to Prescott on Saturday, they will host Central Arizona College on Tuesday.
Fans and writers are running out of words to describe the Roughriders, however, simply put, they have been spectacular this season. After defeating the No. 4 team in the country to open the season, Yavapai fell to the College of Southern Idaho and has since responded with not only a 15-game win-streak, but a 15-game run-rule streak.
The streak is no dumb-luck anomaly either. The Roughriders are dominating the entire NJCAA statistically as they lead the country in runs scored, hits, doubles, homers, RBIs, extra base hits, total bases, batting average, OBP%, SLG% and pitching shutouts.
Players To Watch
The whole team. Nine Roughrider bats boast batting averages higher than .375, four-or-more homers AND 15+ RBIs. On the mound, all four Roughrider pitchers boast ERA’s under 2.40.
One Last Thing
Before Saturday’s home games, Yavapai will be celebrating Head Coach Doug Eastman’s 800th career win and 300th win at YC by having Coach Eastman throw out the first pitch of the day.
