Six-Game Week on the Horizon for YC Softball

The No. 1-ranked Yavapai College softball team is set for a busy week with doubleheaders against Glendale, Arizona Western and Central Arizona on the schedule.

The Games

Softball starts on Tuesday in Glendale, Arizona, where the Roughriders will take on the Glendale Community College Gauchos with game one’s first pitch set for noon. On Thursday, Yavapai returns home to host the Arizona Western College Matadors with first pitch of that doubleheader set for 11 a.m.

On Saturday, the Roughriders welcome the No. 8-ranked Central Arizona College Vaqueras to Bill Vallely Field for their final home games of the regular season with softball starting at noon. All six games will have live stats available on GoRoughriders.com/Live while the Arizona Western and Central Arizona doubleheaders will also have live streaming available. 

The Gauchos

Glendale comes into its matchup with Yavapai at 16-24 overall and 14-22 in the ACCAC. Last time out, Glendale was swept by Central Arizona. The Roughriders swept the Gauchos in their previous matchup on March 12 in Prescott with scores of 17-6 and 25-1. 

The Matadors

Arizona Western comes into its matchup with YC at 12-33 overall and 7-29 within the conference. Last time out, Arizona Western was swept by South Mountain. The Roughriders also swept the Matadors in the previous matchup on February 19 in Yuma with scores of 15-0 and 11-2. 

The Vaqueras

No. 8-ranked Central Arizona comes into its matchup with YC at 40-5 overall and 31-5 in the conference. Before heading to Prescott on Saturday, Central will travel to Tucson on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Pima. The Roughriders and Vaqueras previously matched up on March 15 in Coolidge where YC swept with scores of 9-7 and 5-2. 

The Roughriders

Hot since the start of the season, Yavapai comes into its week of softball ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA, riding a 23-game win streak, 43-2 overall and 35-1 in the ACCAC. Only six of YC’s 43 victories this season have not come via the run-rule. 

Statistically, the Roughriders continue to lead the country in runs scored, hits, double, homers, RBIs, XBHs, total bases, batting average, OBP% and SLG%

One Last Thing

When sophomore infielder Cheyenne Sandoval launched her 10th homer of the season last weekend against Scottsdale on Sophomore Day, she became the ninth Roughrider with double-digit homers this season.
