Freshman guard Keyla Cervantes knocked down a long jumper on YC’s first possession of the game and helped kickstart the offense in the early goings. After another bucket from Cervantes, freshman guard Tanniya Uchida knocked down a three-pointer, followed by a layup from freshman forward Tera Smith to give Yavapai a 9-8 lead and one it would not surrender for the remainder of the night.

After taking the lead, the Roughriders went on a 10-5 run to take a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. Following the quick break, Cervantes netted six points in the blink of an eye and after Uchida knocked down another three, the Roughrider took a commanding 30-16 lead.

Before the half, freshman guards Hollie Dalton and Wynter Huskie both hit from downtown to help give YC a 39-26 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Roughriders maintained their big lead thanks to another 10 points from Cervantes to bring her total on the night to 20 points while freshman forward Kishyah Anderson put up some big numbers as well.

Anderson knocked down three three-pointers in the second half and also mixed in a couple of nice layups in transition to bring her game total to 17 while helping lead the Roughriders to a 71-55 victory.
