Roughrider Softball Opens 2022 Season in Henderson, Nevada

The 2022 Yavapai College softball season is here and the Roughriders open their campaign at the 2022 Coyote Classic Tournament in Henderson, Nevada.

“I expect to do well in this tournament, going in with two front-line power pitchers and an offense to match,” Head Coach Doug Eastman said about the tournament. 

The Games

Yavapai is set for a tripleheader on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday. On Friday, the No. 5-ranked Roughriders begin with a matchup against No. 4-ranked Salt Lake at 11:30 a.m. followed by contests with the College of Southern Idaho at 2 p.m. and Utah State University Eastern at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday’s action starts at 9 a.m. with a game against Colorado Northwestern Community College followed by a matchup with the Snow College Badgers at 4:30 p.m. to conclude the tournament. All games will take place at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park in Henderson, Nevada. All games will also have live stats available on

The Competition

In addition to the Roughriders and their five opponents, the tournament features seven more college softball squads for a field of 13 teams for the tournament. The other seven teams include Central Arizona, Trinidad State, South Mountain, Arizona Western, Northeastern, Eastern Arizona and the host institution: College of Southern Nevada. 

The Roughriders

Last season, the Roughriders went 37-7 en route to a fourth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championship. This season, Yavapai starts the season with a No. 5 ranking in the country. The 2022 squad features a roster of 16, comprised of 10 newcomers and six returners. Of the returners, four were all-conference selections last year while two were also NJCAA All-Americans. 

One Last Thing

Last season, the Roughriders went 4-2 against the teams that they will face in this tournament.
