For the sixth time this season, the No. 1-ranked Yavapai College softball team has swept the ACCAC weekly awards the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
This time, sophomore outfielder Kayla Rodgers took home Player of the Week honors while sophomore pitcher Emily Dix took home Pitcher of the Week honors after the duo helped lead the Roughriders to sweeps of South Mountain and No. 2-ranked Phoenix last week.
For Rodgers, it is the third time this season that she has earned ACCAC weekly honors while Dix is collecting her sixth ACCAC Pitcher of the Week honors. Overall, Yavapai has now earned 15 ACCAC Player/Pitcher of the Week honors so far in 2022.
In Rodgers’ four games last week, she went 9-for-15 with 10 runs scored, one double, five homers, 10 RBIs, a walk and two steals.
Overall, Rodgers is hitting .582 with 83 runs scored, 78 hits, 18 doubles, four triples, 19 homers, 56 RBIs, 21 walks and 12 steals. She also leads the country in runs scored, is tied for first in hits and is fifth in SLG%.
Dix wound up pitching in all four games last week (two of which were starts) and earned the victory in three of them with 18.2 innings pitched, just five earned runs allowed and 34 strikeouts. In her game one start against No. 2-ranked Phoenix, Dix tossed a six-inning no-hitter that featured 14 strikeouts.
Overall, Dix is 20-1 with two saves this season in addition to a 1.74 ERA and 195 strikeouts in 112.2 innings pitched. In the country, she is tied for first in wins, fourth in strikeouts and fourth in strikeouts-per-seven-innings.
Rodgers, Dix and the rest of the Roughriders are back in action on Saturday, April 23, at home against Scottsdale. Game one of the doubleheader is set for noon.
