On Sunday, February 14, 2021 at 8:30 PM, Prescott Valley police and fire responded to State Route 69 at Valley View Drive for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Investigation revealed a 28-year-old Prescott Valley woman attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a car driven by a 50-year-old Mayer woman.
Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority personnel arrived within minutes and initiated emergency medical treatment for the Prescott Valley woman. She was medevac’d by air to a north Phoenix hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Officers’ investigation revealed the driver attempted to avoid the collision and was not driving impaired. She was released with no charges. The pedestrian was attempting to cross in a non-designated crossing area and showed signs of alcohol impairment.
Eastbound traffic on State Highway 69 was closed and rerouted for almost two hours while police conducted their investigation.
Prescott Valley Police would like to remind those who drink, to drink responsibly. Drinking to excess impairs judgment and can kill. Our heartfelt condolence goes out to those impacted by this tragic accident.
