Now Home Opening Game For ERAU Saturday

The Embry-Riddle men’s soccer team will return home after its season-opening road trip to face another tough test. The Eagles will open its home portion of the 2022 season on Saturday against 10th-ranked OUAZ, as the two dominant NAIA schools in the 48th state will do battle for the fifth time.

The two teams have each won a pair of games in the series. Embry-Riddle picked up the two games of the series in 2017, and the teams have not played since the 2019 season.

The Eagles were a couple of good bounces away from being 2-0 to start the season. Embry-Riddle had second-ranked Mobile on the ropes in the second half while trying to battle back from a goal down, but just could not find the equalizer.

The Opponent

#10 OUAZ (2-0-0, 13-5-1 in 2021): The Spirit have continued to build off of its first trip to the NAIA National Tournament, picking up a pair of wins to start the new season. The Spirit earned its highest ranking in program history to start the 2022 year, and have a win over Cal Pac member Antelope Valley.

It was exhilarating,” sophomore Cameron Kovats said on his first career goal last Friday. “It was a good feeling scoring the first goal of the season. It gave me some confidence for the season, and everything I needed to keep going forward

Eagle Notes

Kovats not only scored his first career goal but it was the Eagles’ first of the season as well. Kovats had more opportunities to score in Alabama as well, taking three total shots and getting two on goal.

Lucas Garcia took the most shots out of any Embry player last weekend, firing seven over the two game stretch. Garcia scored the important goal against Mobile to pull the game within one, and had a couple of chances to tie it himself as well.

Ryan Doyle picked up his first career assist in the game against Mobile, getting the helper on Garcia’s goal. He also had one shot in the game again Thomas last Friday.

Elias Ammon had a solid start to his second year in Prescott, making five key saves against Tomas in the season opener. As a unit, the Eagle goalkeepers made 11 saves through the first two games.
