Basketball is coming back to Yavapai College (AZ) and the Roughriders are thrilled to announce that the NJCAA Foundation is supporting the reinstatement in a big way. The Foundation recently announced that it is set to award YC Athletics with a $2,000 Sport Opportunity Grant that will aid mightily in bringing basketball back to YC.

“We are incredibly thankful for the NJCAA Foundation awarding us this grant,” Director of Athletics Brad Clifford said. “We have been in awe of the continued support from our community in bringing basketball back to YC and the support from our own governing association means a lot.”

As a result of the NJCAA’s gift, Yavapai College, with 15 National Championships to its name, can continue to add to its legacy with opportunities for future Roughriders to compete for championships while furthering their education.

The Roughriders announced the reinstatement of basketball back in September of 2021 with intentions to begin competing in the winter of 2022-23 as members of the ACCAC (Arizona Community College Athletic Conference).

“The NJCAA Foundation is excited to further support the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the newly created NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant,” said Brian Luckett, NJCAA Foundation Executive Director. “The ability to provide this funding for the first time ever is a testament to the importance and growth of two-year collegiate athletics. The NJCAA Foundation looks forward to this initiative’s impact as NJCAA member colleges continue to create opportunities for student-athletes across the country.”

About the NJCAA Foundation
