The Swamp Poets Duo comprised of Christian Berry on Guitar, Mandolin and Vocals and Taul Paul Epoch on Blues Harp, Backing Vocals and flute.is an award winning and critically acclaimed musical duo that currently has 5 songs from their new album “Hoodoo Du Voodoo?” receiving heavy radio rotation world wide, (including a number 2 song, “Delta flood” in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil). The Swamp Poets Duo are two time winners of the Northern Arizona Regional Blues Challenge for “Best New Solo/Duo Act”, Two time Nominees in the same category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, Two time nominees for “Best New Album” at the International Blues Challenge and 1 time winner for “Best New Album” at the Northern Arizona Regional Blues Challenge. They will be submitting their new album “Hoodoo Du Voodoo?” for consideration at both events this year which would make them a “triple threat”.
Their style is a danceable mixture of Roots Based American Roadhouse Swamp Soul Music and their sound is most often compared to bands like early Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Feat and Blackberry Smoke. The Swamp Poets Duo writes the majority of their own material and says duo leader Christian Berry “The Mississippi Delta Region and its myriad mixture of American music forms figures very prominently in our influences, songwriting and performances. We can’t help it. Having been born on the Mississippi river it’s in our blood!” Since winning the Blues Challenge events the Swamp Poets Duo has scaled back the amount of nightclubs they play at and now mostly focus on playing at Blues Festivals, Performing Arts Centers and Wineries etc so It is really a rare treat to catch them performing in a nightclub setting. As previous winners of the Northern Arizona Regional Blues Challenge the Swamp Poets Duo has decided to “Give Back” to the local music community by sponsoring the Solo/Duo stage at this year’s Northern Arizona Event to be held on Sunday Oct 3rd from 1-6 pm at the Elk’s Performing Arts Center, (Third Floor) in Prescott, where they will also perform a short set. Winners of this competition in two categories, “Best Band” and “Best Solo/Duo Act” will be sent to Memphis, TN. to compete in the International Blues Challenge against Blues Acts from around the world.
