Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Offices Closed Monday, Sept. 6, for Labor Day Holiday

SPRINGERVILLE, AZ – Sept. 1, 2021 – The Apache-Sitgreaves supervisor’s office and all associated ranger district offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, in observance of the federal Labor Day holiday. Offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The three-day Labor Day weekend is a popular weekend for recreation on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. If visitors plan to camp or hike on the A-S this weekend, please follow state public health guidance and Centers for Disease Control guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Please remember that fire season is in effect and a constant risk in spite of recent rainfall. Use caution with campfires, smoking, shooting and other activities that may cause a spark. Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure coals are cold to the touch before leaving the area.

Know before you go and plan ahead. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations in temperature. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when recreating. Do not rely on cell phones for safety because you may not always have cell coverage in remote sections of the forest.

Visitors are encouraged to recreate responsibly and follow “Leave No Trace” principles:

    • Plan ahead and prepare
    • Travel and camp on durable surfaces
    • Dispose of waste properly
    • Leave what you find
    • Minimize campfire impacts
    • Respect wildlife
    • Be considerate of other visitors
