Lakeside Ranger District – 6 miles South of Vernon
Lakeside, AZ, July 11, 2021— The lighting-caused Firebox fire was discovered on July 07, 2021 and is burning on the Lakeside Ranger District of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forests. It is currently 1 acre and burning in ponderosa pine.

The wildfire is located 6 miles south of Vernon and bordered on the east and north by Forest Service road 6, on the west by Apache County road 3140 and on the south by Forest Service road 96.
The Firebox Fire poses no danger to structures. However, smoke is likely to become more visible over the coming days as the fire spreads.
Recent and Current Operations: Wildland fire crews plan to continue improving roads and other designated perimeters. Current weather conditions may influence the use of firing operations, which may be conducted as needed in order to strengthen control lines and moderate fire behavior. In the next few days, the fire is predicted to back down to the perimeter of Wishbone mountain and partial containment is expected.
