Prescott, AZ – GEM Environmental has been awarded grants from both the Arizona Community Foundation of Yavapai County Impact and the Ingebritsion Family Foundation. The funds provided by these grants will support the GEM Corps Workforce Readiness Program, which was created in partnership with AmeriCorps and The Corps Network. These two generous grants will fully fund GEM Corps’ tools and materials for the rest of the 2021 term. Since beginning their work in March 2021, the GEM Corps Crew has already made a notable and sustainable impact within the community.

    GEM Corps Workforce

Thus far, the GEM Corps Crew has worked in Arizona and New Mexico on various projects, including trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, and habitat restoration. These projects have been conducted in collaboration with diverse community stakeholders, including the City of Prescott Parks and Recreation Department, Yavapai-Apache Nation Wilderness Program, Prescott Creeks, Highlands Center for Natural History, Prescott Community Nature Center, and Heritage Park Zoo. In addition to maintenance and conservation work, GEM Corps Crew members actively work towards professional certificates, including 30-hour OSHA, Civic Leadership, CPR, and Chainsaw Safety in addition to their hands-on fieldwork. To maximize their professional opportunities after completing the program, crew members are mentored by community leaders and encouraged to explore networking opportunities.

The qualities of this program ultimately support GEM Corps’ goal to provide early-career young professionals with extensive experience in their respective fields, thus being more equipped to secure employment or further their education following completion of their GEM Corps term.

When asked about GEM Corps, Program Manager Brandon White shared, “gaining the support of the community, especially through generous donations such as the grants recently received, allows GEM to create meaningful programs within Prescott and beyond.” Not only is GEM proud

of the work that they have done to move the community forward, but they are excited for what the future holds.
