THIS WILL BE THE LONGEST TRAIL RACE IN AMERICA! COULD YOU DO IT?

250-MILE ULTRAMARATHON FROM BLACK CANYON CITY TO FLAGSTAFF ON MAY 3 WILL BE LONGEST TRAIL RACE IN AMERICA

Aravaipa’s Cocodona 250 Connects Arizona’s Most Iconic Landscapes and Towns

PHOENIX, AZ – APRIL 26 — The inaugural running of the Cocodona 250, a 255.8-mile-long trail running race in central Arizona, is set for Monday, May 3. The multi-day ultramarathon starts on the edge of the Sonoran Desert in Black Canyon City, climbs up into the Bradshaw Mountains, carries on to the red rocks of Sedona, and ends right in the heart of downtown Flagstaff, making it the longest point-to-point trail race in North America.

The race connects the most iconic and diverse landscapes in Arizona. The route also runs through classic towns, including Crown King and Prescott’s Whiskey Row. This incredible course features more than 42,000 feet of vertical gain and has a cut-off time of 125 hours. Based on the course starts, the race leader is expected to finish in around 60-hours, arriving at the finish line in Flagstaff just before sunset on Wednesday, May 5.

Cocodona (a combination of “Coconino” and “Sedona”) is the brainchild of Aravaipa’s founder, Jamil Coury. As an established ultramarathon competitor who thrives on long, grueling days in the mountains, Coury has been scouting the course for the last few years. He recruited Steven Aderholt as a Race Director to help plan the event and finalize the logistics. Coury will be

“As a native Arizonan, I wanted to create something that had a lasting legacy, not just for the running community, but for everyone who lives in Arizona. I wanted to create something that

could welcome people from all over the world to run in these amazing landscapes and support the local towns and communities along the way,” says Coury. “Most trail and mountain races around the world avoid towns and stay only in the wilderness, but I wanted to make something that traversed remote wilderness and also celebrated the towns along the way.”

There are currently more than 170 runners from around the United States who entered Cocodona. Like all of Aravaipa’s races, the event will follow current COVID-19 safety protocols. The race will feature live stream coverage from Aravaipa’s in-house media team on Aravaipa’s YouTube and Facebook channels during the first few days of the event.
