On Sunday, March 28, 2021, at about 11:54 PM, Prescott Valley Police responded to a wrong-way driver on East State Route 69 that had nearly struck other vehicles. The 911 caller reported the vehicle had just parked at the Maverik Convenience store at 1344 N. Prescott Country Club Boulevard. The vehicle was described as a white Nissan Versa.
Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle and identified the driver as Roman Masciarelli, 42-years-old, from Santa Clara, California. Due to being suspected as the wrong-way driver, the officer investigated Masciarelli for possible impaired driving. During the investigation, he stated he had methamphetamines in his pants. He admitted to using “meth and pills.” Witness statements indicated Roman almost struck several vehicles including a vehicle with two children.
Early in the day of March 28, 2021 at about 2:49 AM, Masciarelli had also been reported a suspect in the theft of three handguns from his father’s home in Prescott Valley. Officers also learned of a current Order of Protection issued in California which prohibited Masciarelli from possessing handguns. Roman was placed under arrest for DUI, Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangerment, Violation of an Order of Protection, and Theft. Three guns were retrieved from Roman’s vehicle.
At a recent MATFORCE AZ Drug Summit, methamphetamine was confirmed as the
biggest drug threat in Arizona.
