The Town of Prescott Valley has hired the executive search firm of Peckham & McKenney to recruit a new Town Manager. The new manager will take the place of Larry Tarkowski, who recently announced his intent to retire as of May 15. The longest-tenured manager in the Town’s history, Tarkowski began his public service career as Prescott Valley’s Public Works Director in 1989. He served as Interim Town Manager twice before being appointed Town Manager in 2005.
Deputy Town Manager Ryan Judy has taken over duties as Acting Town Manager until a new Town Manager comes on board. Judy has decided to not pursue applying for the position at this time. “The Town Council, staff, and community have all been very supportive in my Acting Town Manager role. In the end, the decision not to apply for the position came down to a desire to be a good husband and father, knowing that the Town Manager position can be very demanding. We have a very forward-looking Mayor and Council and a dedicated staff. I look forward to many more years of service to the residents of Prescott Valley in my current role,” Judy said.
Mayor Kell Palguta said Peckham & McKenney is a respected firm that can help the Town meet its goals in selecting a new Town Manager. “We take this search seriously and we want to find the best-qualified candidate to lead Prescott Valley into the future,” he said.
Peckham & McKenney has managed hundreds of executive searches throughout the Western United States, including recruiting current Prescott Valley Police Chief Steve Roser. Starting its 17th year as Peckham & McKenney, 80 percent of the firm’s placements since 2010 are still with their employers today. The firm offers a one-year placement guarantee.
Andrew Gorgey will again serve as Peckham & McKenney’s recruiter for the Town. Gorgey has served 21 of the last 23 years in local government, including experience as a county manager, city manager (acting), county attorney, and general counsel, which includes 15 years at the executive level, both full- and part-time.

The typical time frame to bring a new manager on board is approximately 3 ½ months and the Town hopes to possibly welcome its new Town Manager by July 1. The process will include the development of the candidate profile, nationwide recruitment, vetting of candidates, presentations, interviews, and a final vote of the Town Council to appoint the manager.
