    RECKLESS DISCHARGE OF A WEAPON

On the evening of October 29, 2020 Prescott Valley Police officers responded to a report of a gun shot fired in the 7600 block of Las Palmas Dr.  The initial investigation revealed a woman had fired a handgun in the air during a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.  No individuals were injured in the course of this event.  Alcohol consumption was a factor in this case. Josephine Sutter was placed in custody at scene and later booked into YCSO Jail pending criminal prosecution.

The Prescott Valley Police Department would like to warn the public that handling firearms while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is extremely dangerous and could lead to criminal weapon misconduct charges.  Reckless discharge of a weapon, such as firing it up into the air, can also fall under “Shannon’s Law”, which is a felony in the State of Arizona.

Remember, if you own or use a firearm, it is your responsibility to know the laws that govern their use and to practice safe gun handling skills.

As always: “if you see something, say something”.
