UPDATE ON FATAL YARNELL PEDESTRIAN INCIDENT: YCSO HOSTING COMMUNITY MEETING PRESCOTT, ARIZONA
The Department of Public Safety is still investigating the fatal pedestrian vehicle incident in Yarnell this past Friday evening.
YCSO Sergeant Dakota Brinkley, who patrols the area around Yarnell, was driving home in his work vehicle at the end of his shift, when he heartbreakingly hit Donna Gordon as she was crossing the street after dinner with friends at Gilligan’s Pizza and Bar in Yarnell.
Ms. Gordon passed away at the scene. DPS has not release any information as to speed or other factors that led to the tragedy as of yet, however YCSO will provide details as they become available. Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes will be hosting a community meeting Thursday Sept. 1st at 3:30 pm at the Yarnell Community Center located at 22302 State Highway 89 in Yarnell. Supervisor Harry Oberg will also be in attendance.
Community members have been asking for a crosswalk to be put in that area for a while and will undoubtedly be asking the Arizona Department of Transportation to review the issue.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED IN VEHICLE INCIDENT INVOLVING YCSO SERGEANT
Last evening at approximately 7 p.m. a 74 year old Donna Gordon of Yarnell was stuck by a vehicle and killed on Highway 89 and Post Road in Yarnell while crossing the street. The driver of the vehicle was a YCSO Sergeant on his way home from his shift. YCSO has asked the Department of Public Safety’s Vehicular Crimes Unit to investigate the incident and interview eyewitnesses. Initial reports show that impairment was not a factor.
The name of the Sergeant is not yet being released. Additional information will be released upon completion of the investigation.
