Men’s Soccer Begins 2022 Campaign With Exhibition Play

The calendar has flipped to August and that means it’s time for YC soccer in Prescott. This season, the men’s team will begin its campaign with three exhibition matches, two of which take place this week.

The Competition

The Roughriders begin the season with an exhibition match against the crosstown Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles at Ken Lindley Field on Wednesday, August 10, at 6 p.m. After a couple of off days, YC is back in action with another exhibition match against OJB FC (a UPSL team based in Chino Valley). That game will also be played at Ken Lindley on Saturday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m.

Both games will feature free admission, however, neither game will be streamed.

The Roughriders

In addition to a new coaching staff (Chris Houser as head coach and Ryder Vanderheyden as assistant coach), YC has welcomed 12 newcomers to the men’s soccer team in 2022 with 15 returners also on the roster.

Of the returners, Michal Mojzis is the only returning all-conference honoree after scoring six goals and tallying three assists in 2021. Christopher Cornn, Jakob Larson and Mael Lopes also return to the squad after each scored four goals in 2021.

As a team, the Roughriders will look to improve upon their 8-8-1 record in 2021 in which the squad ultimately fell to Arizona Western in the region title game.
