Men’s and Women’s YC Soccer Plays This Weekend At Home

Men’s Soccer Hosts Chandler-Gilbert in Conference Opener

After 11 days away from game action, the Yavapai College men’s soccer team is ready to get its conference season rolling and does so on Saturday, September 17, at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley, Arizona, where it will host the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and fans unable to attend the game in person will be able to watch on GoRoughriders.com/Live

The Coyotes

Chandler-Gilbert comes into its matchup with YC at 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play with wins against GateWay and Paradise Valley and losses to Pima, Mesa, Phoenix and Glendale. 

The Roughriders

Yavapai comes into Saturday’s matchup with a 2-1 overall record with wins over CSN and Scottsdale and a loss to No. 1-ranked Pima. Saturday’s contest against the Coyotes will be the Roughriders’ first conference game of the 2022 season. 

Player To Watch

Sophomore forward Iann Topete scored YC’s lone goal against Pima and is always a threat to break away behind opponent defenses. 

One Last Thing

In the all-time series with Chandler-Gilbert, the Roughriders are 43-6-3 with 170 goals scored and 33 allowed.

Women’s Soccer Takes On Coyotes This Weekend

 The Yavapai College women’s soccer team is back at home this weekend for a Saturday, September 17, matchup against the Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley, Arizona, at 6 p.m.

The Coyotes

Chandler-Gilbert comes into its matchup with YC at 4-2 overall and 1-1 within the conference with wins over GateWay, South Mountain, Mesa and Glendale and losses to Paradise Valley and Phoenix. 

The Roughriders

Yavapai heads into the weekend at 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Last time out, the Roughriders defeated Cochise 3-0 on the road in their conference opener. For their efforts in the Cochise match, freshman goalkeeper Morgan Trail was named ACCAC Goalkeeper of the Week while freshman defender Ziyana De Los Reyes Guerrero was named ACCAC Player of the Week. 

Player To Watch

The aforementioned Trail was dominant in net against Cochise with 21 saves and several highlight-reel stops.

One Last Thing

Last season, the Roughriders and Coyotes split their matchups with CGCC winning 1-0 at Ken Lindley Field and YC winning 2-0 in Chandler.
