Lovey Kepa’a Named NJCAA Co-Player of the Year

Yavapai College softball’s shortstop Lovey Kepa’a continues to bring home the hardware after her incredible 2022 season. This time, Kepa’a is adding NJCAA Co-Player of the Year honors to her resume, the association announced Thursday morning.

“I’m so happy for Lovey winning this award,” Head Coach Doug Eastman said. “She exemplifies professionalism, both on the field and in the classroom. She is the perfect representation of Yavapai College and what we stand for.” 

Kepa’a shares NJCAA Co-Player of the Year honors with Caitlyn Wong from McLennan Community College. 

On the season, Kepa’a hit .479 with 93 runs scored, 92 hits, 11 doubles, 34 homers, 104 RBIs, 35 walks, eight steals, a .569 OBP% and 1.068 SLG%. In the country, she was first in homers, first in RBIs, sixth in runs scored and seventh in SLG%. Her home run and RBI totals also broke the single-season records at YC. 

In addition to NJCAA Co-Player of the Year honors, Kepa’a has also earned NJCAA First-Team All-America, NJCAA All-Region, NFCA First-Team All-America, NFCA First-Team All-Region, ACCAC Player of the Year, First-Team All-Conference and ACCAC Player of the Week honors in 2022.
