STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – The Arizona House of Representatives today approved HB 2805, bipartisan legislation sponsored by Republican Representative David Cook, to raise the state’s unemployment weekly insurance benefit amount from $240 to $300, and increasing the income disregard cap from $30 to $160, to allow a total weekly benefit of $460.
“Unemployed Arizonans struggle to make ends meet and put food on their family’s table,” said Representative Cook. “Tonight, they’re a step closer to having some more support. It’s the right thing for us to do, and the bill does it responsibly.”
“I’m grateful for the bipartisanship of my colleagues. It is a good example that the work we do as legislators can have a real and meaningful impact on the lives of the people we’re here to represent.”
The bill now moves to the State Senate for consideration.
David Cook is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives serving Legislative District 8, which includes areas of Pinal and Gila Counties.
