“We appreciate Zach’s contributions to Yavapai College and the athletic department,” Director of Athletics Brad Clifford said. “He elevated the volleyball program to a national contender and he is going to be missed. We wish him success in his next venture.”

At the helm of the program since 2013, Shaver enjoyed a lot of success in his nine years as head coach, accumulating an overall record of 154-93 (.623 W%) while also being the only YC coach to take the volleyball squad to the national tournament.

Shaver accomplished that feat twice: 2015 and 2021 (spring season). Both squads achieved region championships and district championships while Coach Shaver was named District C Coach of the Year during both seasons. In addition, Shaver’s 2021 squad from the spring won the ACCAC for the first time in 25 years, earning Shaver ACCAC Coach of the Year honors.

In 2019, the Roughriders also took home a region championship before falling in the district championship match.

Overall, Shaver has coached the Roughriders to seven-straight region-playoff appearances and has coached five student-athletes to All-American honors.

Coach Shaver’s next step in his coaching journey will take him to Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he will be the Head Coach of the Golden Eagles.

The Roughriders’ search for the next volleyball coach will begin immediately.
