EAGLES OFFENSE EXPLODES IN INAUGURAL HOME GAME

Through a season cancellation and 21 games away from Prescott, the Embry-Riddle baseball team finally got to play its home field on Friday. The Eagles took full advantage of the momentous day, hitting four triples and scoring 13 runs to open its ballpark with a victory over Benedictine-Mesa.

The Eagles did not waste any time getting runs on the board, scoring five in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Strickler led off with a triple, then Owen Cain tripled after Carson Ramocinski reached on an error. ERAU had four hits, and took advantage of two Redhawk errors to jump way out in front after the first.

After Benedictine-Mesa got a pair of runs back in the top of the second, the Eagles responded with four of its own in the bottom half. The inning started with the first four Eagle batters reaching, and all coming around to score.

As a team, Embry-Riddle had four triples on the day, the most in a game in program history. Cain had half of those three-bag hits, with his second coming in the bottom of the fourth where he eventually scored.

Roberto Garza-Nunez was a RBI machine once again, driving in three during his 5-for-5 performance. Garza-Nunez finished a home run shy of the cycle, and his double in the fourth inning was nearly the first ERAU home run at the new ballpark.

The 1-4 spots in the Eagles lineup accounted for 11 of the team’s 14 hits on the day, and also had six of the ten RBI. Josh Beattie also had a pair of RBI, coming on a single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

“The support today, to see how many fans were here, it was unreal,” head coach Geoff Fox said. “To be able to look back and see so many people here supporting these guys, there’s so much love and support for them.”
