For the fourth time this season, the No. 2-ranked Yavapai College softball team has swept the ACCAC weekly awards the conference office announced Monday night. This time, sophomore pitcher Emily Dix took home Pitcher of the Week honors while freshman infielder Yaya Kaaialii took home Player of the Week honors after the duo helped lead the Roughriders to a sweep of Pima last week.
For Dix, it is the fourth time this season that she has earned ACCAC weekly honors while Kaaialii is a first-time honoree. Overall, Yavapai has earned 10 ACCAC Player/Pitcher of the Week honors so far in 2022.
Dix pitched in both games of YC’s doubleheader sweep of the Aztecs as she closed game one out with 1.2 scoreless innings and four strikeouts. In game two, Dix twirled a no-hitter with five innings of scoreless softball and five strikeouts.
Overall this season, Dix holds a 2.04 ERA, 13-1 record and owns 127 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched.
Kaaialii tore the cover off of the softball in both games at the plate as she went 3-for-4 in game one with three doubles, three runs scored, three RBIs, two walks and a stolen base. In game two, Kaaialii hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and five RBIs. Her final statline for the doubleheader read 7-for-8 with six extra base hits, seven runs scored and eight RBIs.
Overall this season, Kaaialii is hitting .585 with 14 homers, 18 doubles, three triples, 57 RBIs, 63 runs scored and six stolen bases. In addition, her OBP% is .692 while her SLG% is 1.287.
Dix, Kaaialii and the rest of the Roughriders are back in action on Thursday, March 31, at home where they will take on the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds in an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
