Contributed By -PIO Supervisor Traces Gordon

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at 11:42 PM, Prescott Valley Police Officers responded to the 3700 block of N. Taylor Drive due to a report of gunshots being fired in the residence.

A roommate had been awakened by gunshots and fled the residence with her two dogs and called police.

Upon arrival, officers heard multiple gunshots coming from the residence.  After several announcements were made over a public address system, the resident exited the home, surrendered, and was placed into custody.

Upon investigation, officers learned the resident, a 77-year-old military veteran, was having hallucinations and yelling about “the enemy” being in the house.  Officers’ investigation revealed several rounds had been fired from a handgun inside the house.  Officers contacted surrounding residents and thankfully no one was injured.

The resident was transported to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital for treatment. Charges were submitted to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office for review.  The charges are Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct with a Firearm/Recklessly Handle a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in City Limits and Discharging a Firearm in Town Limits.
