“I am very excited to help lead the next generation of soccer players here at Yavapai College,” said Vanderheyden. “I’m looking forward to getting the program back on track. Winning our conference and competing for a national championship every year is the bar that has been set.”

From 2006-11, Vanderheyden was the head assistant coach at the Dominican University of California. Following his stint at Dominican, Vanderheyden was the head soccer and basketball coach at Emery High School from 2011-18. While coaching at Emery, Vanderheyden also taught physical education at Lisa Kampner Academy from 2016-18.

As a player, he played at Santa Barbara City College in 2000 and earned All-State Southern California honors. He then played at Chico State University from 2001-03 and was an All-CCCAA Selection.

Other playing stops for Vanderheyden include the Greek Americans SF from 1994-2000 and 2005-07 (won the US Open Cup Championship in 1994) and the Chico Rooks from 2001-05.

Vanderheyden also earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Chico State University in 2004.
