On 6/14/2022, at approximately 3:08 pm, Chino Valley Officers responded to the 3700 block of North SR 89 in regard to a traffic collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the motorcyclist down in the roadway. The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old male from Ashfork, was found to be suffering from serious injuries. The driver of the truck, a 60-year-old male from Chino Valley, was not injured as a result of the collision. Traffic on SR 89 was completely stopped for several minutes while a helicopter landed to transport the motorcyclist to a local hospital for treatment.
Although the cause of the crash is still currently under investigation, it appears that speed was a contributing factor. Preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was travelling south on SR89. The truck was pulling onto the highway from a driveway in the 3700 block of SR89, with intent of going southbound. According to witnesses on scene, the motorcycle was allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed and when the truck pulled onto the roadway, the motorcycle attempted to go around it, but instead clipped the rear passenger side, causing it to lose control. The motorcycle went down and finally came to a stop more than 80 feet from the point of initial impact. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
The Chino Valley Police Department would like to thank motorist for their understanding and patience while the roadway was closed and detours were provided. We also want to thank our partnering agencies for their assistance, including the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, LifeLine, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and ACT Towing.
