The Games

Volleyball begins on Wednesday, September 14, at 7 p.m. for the Roughriders as they will face the No. 10-ranked Chandler-Gilbert Community College Coyotes in Chandler, Arizona, in their second conference match of the season.

After a couple of off days, YC heads to North Las Vegas, Nevada, to participate in a small tournament, hosted by the College of Southern Nevada. For the Roughriders, their tournament games come in the form of a Saturday, September 17, doubleheader with a 9 a.m. matchup against the host CSN Coyotes and a 1 p.m. matchup with the No. 7-ranked Utah State University Eastern Eagles.

The streaming links for the CGCC and CSN games can be found on with the CSN game being available for purchase. The USUE game is not guaranteed to be streamed.

The CGCC Coyotes

No. 10-ranked (NJCAA DII) Chandler-Gilbert comes into its matchup with YC with a 4-2 overall record and 2-0 conference record. The Coyotes have beaten Glendale, Williston State, Pima and CSN and have lost to Parkland and USUE.

The CSN Coyotes

CSN comes into its rematch with YC at 3-7 overall with wins over Garden City, Eastern Arizona and Pima and losses to Eastern Arizona (2), Yavapai, Arizona Western, Florida Southwestern, Parkland and CGCC.

The Eagles

No. 7-ranked (NJCAA DI) Utah State University Eastern comes into its matchup with YC at 14-3 overall while riding an 11-game winning streak. In addition, the Eagles only losses have come to top-10 opponents.

The Roughriders

Yavapai comes into its week of volleyball with a 2-5 overall record and 1-0 conference record. Last time out, the Roughriders swept South Mountain for their first conference win of the season. YC’s other victory came via sweep of CSN earlier this season while two of its four losses have come from top-five opponents.

Players To Watch

Freshman right hitter Abby Whatton has tallied eight-plus kills in four-straight matches with two of those matches featuring double-digit kills.

One Last Thing

YC is in the midst of playing only one home game in a span of nine games. After that stint ends on October 8, the Roughriders will play their final six games at home.
