2022 Campaign Begins for Women’s Soccer

After earning a region playoff spot in its inaugural season in 2021, the Yavapai College women’s soccer team is ready to build upon that success in the fall of 2022. The journey back to the playoffs begins this week with a couple of opportunities for fans to see the women’s soccer squad back in action.

The Competition

The Roughriders begin the season with their Green & Gold Scrimmage on Thursday, August 11, at Ken Lindley Field at 6 p.m. After having the weekend off, YC will travel to Embry Riddle for an exhibition match on Monday, August 15, at 6 p.m.

Both games will feature free admission, however, neither game will be streamed.

The Roughriders

This year’s YC squad features a roster of 27 student-athletes: 16 returners and 11 newcomers.

Of the returners, the Roughriders bring back all three of their all-conference honorees from the 2021 season: Emma Alvarez (11 goals and three assists), Dani Mares (three goals and six assists) and AJ Jones (two goals and seven assists).

As a team, the Roughriders will look to improve upon their 7-11 record in 2021 in which the squad ultimately fell to Arizona Western in the region title game.
